Big in japan

Prawn, scallop and fish sashimi

Food. Food is very big in Japan. It’s a nation of food-philes. All of which made it a bloody great honeymoon destination. Click on the image above to see a few pictures. More will be added in time…

Normal Grubworm-ish service will be resumed shortly. Hopefully plenty to write about as I have come back armed with some new ideas and lots of very cool tea stuff. God, Ippodo is amazing.

Hola – this is meemalee – the third and I think the last person to hijack the lovely Grubworm’s blog as he swans around the land of the rising sun. Honeymoon indeed. Pah.

I agreed to do this as I thought I’d be festering in an office somewhere, but in actual fact I am also on holiday in the US of A right this minute, merrily neglecting my own blog, so I hope the Grubworm is grateful.

Incidentally, I don’t normally use WordPress (apart from on the Haiku Review which I update but rarely) which will explain countless formatting errors (I expect) although won’t excuse the content of this post – so apologies in advance.

3 courses for £12? A grand deal at The Little Bay

Hello there! It’s me, Catty! While Aaron’s busy honeymooning around Japan (me? jealous? NEVER!), we’ve hi-jacked his blog so that you don’t go hungry, and we’ll continue to post on his behalf, keeping them gastronomous eyes of yours well fed!

I thought I’d share with you all something a little special to Aaron and I. I went to The Little Bay Restaurant back in March this year. I hadn’t even met Aaron at the time and when he saw I’d tweeted that I was going, he responded and said I absolutely had to, HAD TO, have the pig’s cheek. And much to the disgust of my near-vegetarian colleague, I did have the pig’s cheek and boy was it awesome.

Cha siu

Cha Siu (Cantonese BBQ Roast Pork)

Hi, I’m Mr Noodles from Eat Noodles Love Noodles and I’ve hijacked The Grubworm. Don’t worry though, Aaron will be back from honeymoon (congratulations!) in September but in the meantime he has entrusted his blog to a team of blogsitters.

I was well chuffed when I was asked to write a guest post on this blog and I immediately set about thinking what to write. After all I didn’t want to post any old crap on here; I can do that on my own blog. So after much deliberation, I decided to blog in the spirit of The Grubworm and do something I don’t do enough of. I was going to cook and post a recipe. Continue reading

Honeymooning in Japan

honeymoon

Being a recently married man, I am off to explore the delights of Japan for a (if I say so myself) humdinger of a honeymoon. I’m looking forward to delving into my Otaku side a wee bit more, maid cafes and all. And, of course, eating in one of the finest dining destinations know to humankind.

In the meantime, I’ve lined up a superlative trio of guest bloggers: Mr Noodles, Meemalee and Catty who will each be posting over the next three weeks. To be honest, I’m pretty blown away they’ve agreed and I know they’re foodie to the core. So enjoy, and I’ll see you all in September. Sayonara!

Eastside Inn cocktail bar and food

Jamon at Eastside Inn bar

Having been invited to the Eastside Inn for a cocktail and chat with restaurant co-creator Justine, I had images of leaning back Don Draper style, cocktail casually clutched in my hand, cooly dispensing anecdotes. I did not picture getting in an excited lather over seaweed infused Normandy butter and moaning ecstaticlly over some particularly fine jamon.

But that’s the Eastside Inn for you. I have talked – well, raved really – about it before. Twice. But this time I wasn’t stopping in for dinner. I was there to try out their newly-minted bar and maybe sample one or two of their bar snacks. Curious to see if they put as much into mixing drinks as they do into preparing food. Continue reading
